"Beautiful boy" is a rough film, poorly structured with endless flashbacks far too many that disorient the viewer. This bias deprives the film of understanding the succession and therefore the logical development of it ... All these mistakes make it rather quickly, the film bores and disappoints, and, if it is necessary to see it, c is only for the performance of both actors: Steve
Carrell and Timothée Chalamet ... Even the outcome is lame ... In short,
a real disappointment !!!

The film has been presented in many festivals where Timothée Chalamet has been nominated as a best supporting actor. The film is adapted from David Sheff's memoirs about his son Nic's addiction to drugs and the worst like methamphetamine.
The Sheff family is a stepfamily, David is separated from his first wife Vicki with whom he had a son Nic who lives most often with his father, the latter has a second wife Karen with whom he had two children Daisy and Jasper , the family live in a luxurious villa and Nic is a brilliant young man, cultured and sporty and there is no doubt that he will have a good university career, but the kid at the age of 12 is a drug addict. firstly a little cannabis to come up with hard drugs as the worst of all Meth Crystal with one of the worst addictions that makes detoxification get only weak results. Nic, however, will accept a cure but during a "permission" he makes a first fugue and the ordeal begins for Father David who wants to try everything to save his son ...
What to say, except that we know that it is an organized massacre, a genocide, an extermination worse than the biggest murderous wars and the only ones who resist drug are those who sell it, at least those who enrich with and one really wonders if there is no eel under rock or that the law does not follow, it must be said also that the narcotrafic became a weapon of war perhaps less effective than the nuclear hell but certainly more sneaky. The film is based on a young person who has tasted it and we know that all detoxification treatments can not overcome this poison. The originality of the scenario comes from the fact that the drama is observed by the eyes of the father who of course does not want to give up until the inevitable bowl. It is to be seen and meditated on occasion, in short it is a drama that leaves no one indifferent, there are however lengths and too many flashbacks some of which are very fleeting and disturbing the understanding.

The second film of Félix VAN GROENINGEN (after the remarkable "Alabama Monroe") is a film that challenges by its subject inevitably (poor parents in front of the slow drift of their drugged son). And it must be admitted that the performances of Steve CARELL and that of Timothée CHALAMET alone are worth the ticket. Certainly the narrative choice is sometimes disconcerting, frequent flashbacks are not necessarily wise.
But after "Ben is back" (also very good) earlier this year on a similar subject, the film has the merit of showing the daily struggle and painful families affected by an addiction. To have.
