Insidious is a saga that works well, which follows a little Conjuring. That said, for this component, the limit may be reached. Insidious 4 repeats itself in his horrific scenes and allows himself new things, either catastrophic (humor) or quite interesting (the personal story around Elise).
This part begins with a small scene during Elise's childhood. This is not bad but we will strongly think of Annabelle 2 in the frame. What is interesting in this production is that we focus on the past of our favorite medium. It gives a film a little more personal, we'll say. However, next to that, the film is a lot of plagiarism and dares to offer a very embarrassing forced humor. At the level of horrific scenes, it is warmed up with always this long final scene in the afterlife. The face to face with the ghost at the end is thinking a lot about another final scene in another film of the same kind (it seems to me that's Mr Badabook). In spite of two or three small passages, there are enough rather distressing (especially the scene where Elise looks at some suitcases in a kind of small tunnel of the house).
Insidious 4? Apart from Elise's past, nothing new. It smells like the commercial at full nose. Despite scenes from the past, the film is long and both advance too fast (all the team arrives immediately on the paranormal place and it turns in circles until the end). In short, it is time for it to stop: the loop is complete and do not spoil the qualities of the first games.

We are immersed in a story that brings us back to the childhood home of Elise and, with this return, the pain and the fears reappear. It's a good start, and the story could have played only on his secret wounds, but in this final installment of a successful franchise, the director wants to stand out from those predecessors by bringing a touch of humor. This is the duo Tucker and Specs who are at the maneuvering, not that it is ridiculous, but in this universe, it is offbeat. In this horrifying world, humor is as dangerous as an elephant in a porcelain store. Too bad because it takes away credibility even if everything remains acceptable.
